Kimura Racing begun their 2023 racing schedule with their first pro race of the year, the Bathurst 12 hours. The Kimura Racing team entered two teams into this special event, our pro team and our academy team.
The pro team with Matthew Caruana and Ryan Micallef got off to a flying start, Matthew Caruana took the qualifying session and managed to put the Kimura Racing car into third place and starting on the second row of the grid. Matthew Caruana then went on after his first two hours stint to get himself into the lead and have a gap of seven seconds before entering the pit for Ryan Micallef to take the stage.
Unfortunately for Ryan after five laps he had an incident where he clicked an inside curb which then put them into the barrier. This meant the car had to come in for repairs which took 10 minutes until we could get back out onto the track. After this the team came out in 34th position and four laps down with 10 hours of racing.
However both of them dug deep and came all the way through the field to get into 10th place on the last lap of the race. The Kimura Racing Pro Team finished in 10th, which was a great comeback from the boys.
Our pro team driver Matthew Caruana had this to say:
‘It was amazing to see how we managed to go the final 10 hours with no mistakes without dropping our heads to achieve 10th place was amazing and a superb experience all round’
The team’s focus turns to the next race of the year at Nurburgring 24 Hour that is running from the 12th March – 14th March.
